Honor unveiled the new MagicBook 16 Pro gaming laptops in China today. The lineup is represented by two models that differ only in video cards: the base one uses the GeForce GTX 1650, and the top one received the GeForce RTX 3050.

Laptops are equipped with IPS screens with a diagonal of 16.1 inches with a frame rate of 144 Hz and full HD resolution. The screen covers 100% of the sRGB color space and covers 87.3% of the lid area. The amount of RAM is 16 GB, the amount of SSD is 512 GB.

The cooling system is represented by three heat pipes with a diameter of 2 mm and two fans. The thickness of the case of the MagicBook 16 Pro is 18.2 mm, the weight is 1.84 kg. In the configuration of laptops, there are also two microphones, a fingerprint scanner in the power key, support for fast charging with a power of 135 watts. Maximum autonomy – up to 8 hours. New items are running Windows 10, but an upgrade to Windows 11 is guaranteed.

It’s no secret that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards need powerful power supplies, but official recommendations from Nvidia partners vary.

Some manufacturers follow Nvidia’s recommendations for a standard 850W PSU, but many manufacturers list 1000W PSUs as recommended, some even insist on a 1200W PSU.

Asus recommends a 1000W PSU for its ROG Strix graphics card. Asus suggests this because the company assumes that users will be overclocking both the CPU and the GPU. The Gigabyte Aorus Master and Zotac AMP Extreme/Trinity RTX 4090 graphics cards have the same power supply recommendation of 1000W.

MSI, PNY, Galax, and Inno3D recommend an 850W PSU. However, Palit recommends using up to 1200W power supply for its RTX 4090 GameRock graphics card, which is the most stringent requirement among graphics card manufacturers today.

The results of testing new items in Furmark have already appeared on the Web. In the msi-01 base test, the GPU frequency reached 3 GHz, and the power consumption was 426 W, but in the notorious Donut test, the frequency, although significantly lower (2.64 GHz), consumed the card almost 616 W! This test loads 3D cards much more heavily, which, as we can see, has a noticeable effect on power consumption.

In this case, the tests were carried out with a liquid cooler and, judging by the core frequency, in overclocking. Of course, without overclocking and in games, the consumption of the RTX 4090 will never reach what we see in the Donut test, but at the same time, such results mean that this is far from the limit for the adapter, and consumption during extreme overclocking can only be imagined .

Samsung at the Samsung Tech Day 2022 event talked about the achievements and plans for its semiconductor business, at the same time touching on the topic of GDDR7 memory for future generations of video cards.

There are practically no details yet, we do not know when such memory will appear on the market, but Samsung indicated its frequency – 36 GHz!

Recall that GDDR6X memory currently runs at 21 GHz in some 3D cards. Of course, in all these cases we are talking about the effective frequency, but this applies to any such memory.

If we talk about top-end graphics cards with 384-bit bus, 36 GHz memory will provide 1.7 GB / s bandwidth! Probably, this will significantly speed up the new generation of 3D maps, even without taking into account new GPUs.
