A very light laptop has been added to the range of Gigabyte. With a 14-inch screen, the U4 weighs only 990 g. However, you have to pay for it.
But first, about the main characteristics. The novelty has received the top-end Intel Core i9-1195G7 processor in its line. RAM can be from 8 GB or more than these 8 GB soldered on the motherboard, and in addition there is one DDR4 slot. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is an IPS panel without the increased frame rate.
The storage subsystem can include two M.2 SSDs. Despite the size and weight, the range of ports is quite wide. There is USB 3.2 (x2), USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 support, HDMI 2.0, a headphone jack and a microSD slot. Also worth noting is Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and MIL-STD-810G compliance. Dimensions are equal to 322 x 217 x 17.2 mm.
As for the mass payment mentioned at the beginning, this is autonomy. Gigabyte itself says about 8 hours of operation, but the problem is that the battery here has a capacity of only 36 Wh, which is below average. But there is a quick charge: 30 minutes is enough to replenish the capacity by 45%.

Linux has become dangerous – one of the cores of the system can physically disable the laptop display, although not on all models
The Linux kernel 6.0 was recently released and version 6.1 is scheduled to be released soon. However, many users have not switched to it yet. And, as it turned out, one of the old kernels has a problem that affects the video subsystem. It can physically damage the display. This concerns the Linux kernel 5.19.12, but in version 5.19.13 the problem was solved.
The failure only affected laptops with Intel processors that were running a distribution based on the Linux 5.19.12 kernel. The problem seemed to be related to the Intel graphics driver, which caused the display to flash rapidly in white. One of the engineers who is involved in the development of the core of the system explained that it was an incorrect delay in powering up the LCD panel. Because of this, the display could fail, because it is simply not designed to work in this mode for a long time.
It is noted that the problem manifested itself on laptops, where the screens were directly connected to the integrated video core. It was also relevant for models with Nvidia Optimus and some models with Radeon graphics (if available).
It is noted that laptops with AMD processors, conventional and hybrid, are not affected by this problem. Also, the developers advised not to install the “problem” update for those who have not had time to update.
And earlier it became known about a new problem with Windows 11 22H2.
World’s first laptop with RISC-V processor goes on sale It costs $1,500
The ROMA laptop, the world’s first portable computer based on the RISC-V processor, which was introduced last summer, appeared on Alibaba’s Chinese site. This model is priced at $1499.
At the moment, the manufacturer plans to ship about 100 units by the end of the year, and up to 1,000 more in the first quarter of 2023. At the same time, to purchase, you need to contact the supplier directly, clarify the price and specifications before placing an order.
The laptop itself is the result of a partnership between China’s DeepComputing and Xcalibyte. It is built on the Alibaba T-Head TH1520 processor with four 64-bit Xuantie C910 cores, which operate at a frequency of 2.5 GHz. It also has a neural processor with a performance of up to 4 TOPS and an Imagination graphics chip.
The laptop is equipped with a 14.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of permanent memory. Other features include a backlit keyboard, SD card reader, HDMI, USB-C, USB-A and Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth adapters, and a 1080p webcam.
For now, such a system will be of interest only to enthusiasts and developers, but this is the first mass alternative to x86 and Arm processors that has appeared on the market.
The world’s first laptop with the unique Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor. Gaming PC XMG Apex 15 Max with such a CPU will cost 1720 euros
Schenker has unveiled the world’s first laptop powered by the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor.
Yes, this is a desktop CPU, but XMG brand laptops often use AMD desktop processors. In this case, the company only needed to update the BIOS so that its motherboard, which underlies some models, received support for the specified CPU.
So, the laptop is called XMG Apex 15 Max. Owners of earlier versions of this model can update the BIOS and replace the processor themselves. The laptop is equipped with a 240-Hz Full HD screen with a diagonal of 15.6 inches, the GeForce RTX 3060 or RTX 3070 is responsible for graphics performance to choose from. There is also from 16 to 64 GB of RAM, you can install up to three drives. The basic version with Ryzen 7 5800X3D will cost 1720 euros.
Recall that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the first and so far the only consumer processor in the world with V-Cache technology, through which 64 MB of L3 cache has been added to it. Thanks to this, this CPU is one of the best gaming processors and definitely the best in its price category.
