Huawei today introduced a lot of new things, and among the novelties was the MatePad Pro 12.6 tablet. Unlike smartphones of the Mate 50 series, it did not receive the top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 single-chip system, instead it uses a much less powerful Kirin 9000E. But the rest of the characteristics are quite at the level of top-end tablets. The amount of RAM is 8 GB, and there are no options.
Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is equipped with a 12.6-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a frame rate of 120 Hz. The device has a proprietary M-Pencil stylus and a keyboard cover. That is, the device can be used both for creativity and for work. These accessories are included with the top configuration only, in other cases they are purchased separately.
MatePad Pro 12.6 received as many as 8 speakers and a 10,050 mAh battery, so you shouldn’t worry about autonomy. The front camera is 8-megapixel, in the main camera system there are two modules directly responsible for shooting. The main one has a 13-megapixel sensor and a wide-angle lens, the secondary one has an 8-megapixel sensor and an ultra-wide-angle lens. The third module is represented by a 3D ToF camera. The software platform is the proprietary HarmonyOS 3.0.
Interestingly, MatePad Pro 12.6 does not have versions with an LTE modem. The base version with 128 GB of flash memory is priced at $675. Other options come with 256GB and 512GB of flash storage for $750 and $1,080 respectively. In the latter case, the package includes a keyboard and a stylus.
Huawei also today unveiled the Mate 50 Pro smartphone, the MateBook E Go Windows 11 tablet, and its first electric car, the Aito M5 EV.

From $100 for a modern branded tablet. New Amazon Fire HD 8 Models Introduced
Amazon has updated its line of budget tablets Fire HD 8. There are three new items: Fire HD 8, Fire HD 8 Plus and Fire HD 8 Kids.
The screen of the tablets is still as simple as possible. It is 8 inches with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. But the processor became faster, and there was more memory.
Amazon, as usual, does not name the platform, but previously it was a quad-core SoC, and now it is an octa-core 2 GHz one. The older model has 3 GB of RAM, while the younger and children’s versions have 2 GB each. Flash memory for all versions is 32 or 64 GB, expandable with microSD cards.
You can also note the USB-C port, stereo speakers, autonomy up to 13 hours, front cameras with a resolution of 2 megapixels and a main camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels for the Fire HD 8 Plus.
The Fire HD 8 starts at $100, the Fire HD 8 Plus starts at $120, and the kids version starts at $150. Overall, Amazon’s tablets have gotten a little better, keeping prices up. Thanks to this, Amazon has been on the list of leaders in this market for many years.
Microsoft Surface Pro 9 Tablets Rumored To Come With Intel And Qualcomm Processors
Over the past few years, Microsoft has been selling Surface Pro tablets with Intel processors and Surface Pro X tablets with Qualcomm processors based on Arm architecture. But there are rumors that the company will be ditching the Surface Pro X line this year and launching variants of the Surface Pro 9 with Intel and Qualcomm processors.
It is assumed that three versions of the tablets will be released. Their specifications look like this:
- Intel Core i7-1255U: 8-core, 12-thread up to 4.7GHz, Iris Xe 1.25GHz graphics, TDP 15-55W, Intel Alder Lake architecture.
- Intel Core i5-1235U: 8-core, 12-thread up to 4.4GHz, 1.2GHz Iris Xe graphics, TDP 15-55W, Intel Alder Lake architecture.
- Microsoft SQ3: Based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3.
Models based on Intel processors are expected to provide 12-22% higher single-core performance than Surface Pro 8. As for the SQ3, there is almost no data on it. However, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is 85% faster than the Gen 2 chip used in the latest Surface Pro X.
All models will receive 13.5-inch displays and will support up to 16 GB of RAM. Drives from 256 GB to 1 TB are also promised.
Pricing and release dates have yet to be announced.
